This afternoon the Cambridge 640P phono pre-amp arrived. I was still working, so it got the time for gaining room temperature before any power was allowed to enter. Even as Cambridge tell the user to allow it 36 hours of continous use to reach the best performance it is already very good. After just 6 hours of power and 6 LP sides (from a Birthday Ode to Queen Mary by Purcell to the last half of Gurrelieder by Schönberg) a lot of the quality is present. The single instruments are placed very precise and rock solid in a vast soundscape. The bottom is deep, precise and controlled. The top is smooth and yet sparkles as it should. Violins - also en masse - are wonderfull. The whole scale is clean, detailed and a joy to listen to without any sign of hiss or hum.
And it will be even better during the next days and weeks!
